William Shakespeare is often regarded as the greatest English writer ever to have lived, but that doesn’t mean that his work doesn’t come with negative connotations. Actors Dan Poole and Giles Terera’s Muse of Fire charts their four year journey of discovery as they investigate how and why people are scared of tackling Shakespeare. They enlist the help a truly outstanding plethora of interviewees to help them, from Sir Ian McKellan to Dame Judy Dench and Jude Law.

They travel from London to Denmark to Los Angeles to gain an insight into the fear that people have of the difficulty of language and the universal themes which reside beneath that transcend time, race and class. The beauty of this documentary comes from Poole and Terera as they show us their trials and tribulations involved in making the documentary. We laugh at their jokes, feel for their frustration and when their car breaks down, we root for them to make their interviews in time and thus their friendship and journey becomes almost as important to us as answering their question is to them. All in all the audience is with them all the way as their passion and humility leaves us with a fantastic documentary.
