Opening film: Problemski Hotel

Raindance is excited to announce that our Opening Night Gala screening will be of Problemski Hotel It will take place on the 21st of September at Picturehouse Central. Director Manu Richie will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening.

Synopsis: The cross-frontier migrant’s life ‘within the system’ becomes even bleaker in December. Bipul doesn’t want to admit it, but the arrival of Lidia, a Russian girl makes a difference. Hope? Surely not! A future? Get real! December is also the ninth month of Martina’s pregnancy. But, just when the situation seems hopeless, help is at hand.

Alongside, short film The Nation Holds Its Breath directed by Kev Cahill and executive produced by Harvey and Bob Weinstein and David will be premiered at the Opening Night Gala. Part of the Lexus Short Film Series 2016.

After the film, filmmakers and indie film lovers alike are invited to join us at the Cafe de Paris, Leicester Square, to celebrate the opening of our festival in true Raindance style. Our Opening Night entertainment will be served by Oh My God! It's the Church, a non-stop party church service featuring the best soul, blues and disco tunes. Be ready to sin, be saved and sin all over again.

Closing film: News from Planet Mars

Raindance is pleased to announce that our Closing Night Gala screening will be of News From Planet Mars. It will take place on the 2nd of October at Vue Picadilly. Director Dominik Moll will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening.

Synopsis: A surreal French comedy drama about forty-something dad Philippe Mars, whose well-meaning and balanced approach to life is challenged by increasingly chaotic, and in turn, absurd circumstances. Dealing with his rebellious children, an angry work colleague and his artist sister, this film is a darkly comic take on family life.

Following the screening there will be a drinks reception at Picturehouse Central bar.
